Easy to Find, But So Hard to Leave: Life in Thorpe Langton

The village of Thorpe Langton is one of a group of five villages known as "The Langtons". Just four miles from Market Harborough, this pretty village boasts stunning views of rolling hills and is the starting point of some of the best walks in the county of Leicestershire.

To live in Thorpe Langton is to be part of a thriving local community. At the heart of the village is a magnificent medieval church, The Bakers Arms, (a destination pub favoured by locals and visitors alike), and the Langton Brewery with its beer festival every summer. The Community Hall in nearby Church Langton hosts plenty of events, classes and activities.

The well regarded Church Langton Primary School (OFSTED: ‘Good’) is in the next village and there’s a good choice of secondaries, including Welland Park Academy (‘Outstanding’) and Robert Smyth Academy (‘Good’) in Market Harborough, and The Kibworth School (4 miles; ‘Good’). The independent sector is well represented in the area with Leicester Grammar (8 miles), Uppingham School (12 miles) and Oakham School (19 miles).
Notable prep schools include Great Glen (7 miles) and Spratton Hall (20 miles).

“Thorpe Langton really is a hidden treasure. It’s just minutes from Market Harborough and has excellent transport links, yet you really do feel off the beaten track here.”

Mentioned in the Domesday Book, the rural haven of Thorpe Langton is a mere four minutes from the A6, half an hour from the M1 and the M6. The train from Market Harborough, less than five miles away, takes you to Leicester in 15 minutes, and London St Pancras in just an hour. Market Harborough has a good choice of supermarkets, independent retailers and great restaurants. You’ll appreciate the town’s great swimming pool and leisure centre, along with Kibworth’s Cricket Club and Golf Club just four miles away.

From Langdale, our development in Thorpe Langton, you can enjoy unrivalled views of Langton Caudle Hill, a landmark on the Hallaton to Foxton leg of the Leicestershire Round. This 100-mile circular walking route around Leicester can be accessed directly from the development. Foxton Locks, the largest lock staircase on the country’s canal system, is just ten minutes drive from Langdale, and Kilworth House open-air theatre, in the grounds of a nearby country house hotel, is a magnet for lovers of quality drama, music and comedy.
