Reasons to Love a Real Fireplace

Long gone are the days where home design was all about blank walls and open-plan living. Experience has taught us that whilst having enough space is important, it’s features such as fireplaces that turn our houses into homes. This is borne out by the National Association of Chimney Sweeps, who reported that significant numbers of home-owners have been opening-up their disused fireplaces in recent years.

We’ve long been fans of having a real fire, and most of our new homes have a working chimney, enabling you to fit a fireplace or a wood-burner in your living room. Here are some of the many reasons why you should consider a having a real fire in your home.

It adds character

At this time of year, as we tend towards spending more time indoors, nothing can beat the warm glow of the flames and the crackle of logs as they burn. But all year round, an open fireplace draws your eye when you enter a room in, almost giving the room a heart.

Modern and traditional styles are both covered

A wood-burner comes in many shapes and sizes. Aside from the traditional, box-shape there are many cylindrical and curved shapes available. Dual-aspect stoves that can be viewed from two different areas of the home, as well as wall-mounted and raised pedestal stoves are also increasingly popular. Stoves and fireplaces also come in a multitude of colours, so you can choose one to match your colour scheme.

They can provide an environmentally-sound fuel source

Advances in technology mean modern wood-burning stoves are virtually carbon neutral when using current burn technology. To put it another way, high-quality wood emits less CO2 when burned than it does with natural decay, so you are also doing your bit for the environment.

They bring people together

In this digital age, where face to face conversation has too often been replaced with heads staring at tablets and mobile phones, a real fire provides a focal point. Nothing beats staring into the flames on a cold winter's night – some even believe it taps into our more primeval instincts.

You keep Father Christmas happy!

Whilst Santa can get into chimney-less homes using a magic key, nothing makes him happier when he’s out delivering presents than having a proper chimney to enter a home by. With a real fireplace, not only can you snuggle up in your new home in front of a real fire, but you'll also be at the top of Santa's nice list… and what’s not to love about that?!
