The Fieldings, Brigstock

The Fieldings is a tranquil enclave at the northern edge of Brigstock. The High Street and the bustle of village life may be just a few hundred yards away, yet The Fieldings turns its face towards the south-west and the warm glow of the afternoon sun. To the north there are open fields, below and to the west lies the village cricket pitch, and to the east the village is shaded from view behind ancient stone walls.

There is no longer a sales office at The Fieldings. If you need further information please call 01536 740019.

Make your home above the cricket meadow in a Saxon village

In Brigstock's twisting lanes, the honey-coloured limestone glows gold in the sunlight, and villagers greet everyone – friends and strangers alike – with a smile. The sense of community thrives in this ancient village. Its limestone walls radiate a thousand years of warmth and friendship.

Brigstock and its people have stood the test of time. When marauding Danes burned their church, the Saxon villagers built a better one – a building that would outlast them all. The Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle still has its Saxon stair turret, now the launch pad for the annual church fete, teddy-bear parachute competition.

In the Domesday book, this was Bricstoc, from the Old English 'brycg' and 'stoc' meaning a settlement by a bridge. Beneath that bridge, the leisurely Harper's Brook still meanders through the village, weaving past the village hall and primary school.
